Thinking about leaving or returning, in the heights of Havana. Analysis of the films Regreso a Ítaca (2014) and El techo (2016)

dc.descriptionOne character dreams of leaving and the other one thinks about returning. They are separated by age, life experience and their ability to inhabit the past or the future. They are united by migration, the insular destiny and a rooftop. This article intends to carry out an analysis of the films Regreso a Ítaca (Laurent Cantet, 2014) and El techo (Patricia Ramos, 2016) that contemplates how certain narrative, aesthetic and mise-en-scène aspects contribute to the configuration of imaginaries around migration and identity processes. To this aim, some theoretical reflections on issues such as social imaginaries, cinema and the transnational will be recovered, and the construction of characters and the configuration of chronotopes in the film text will be studied.

Los une la migración, el destino insular y una azotea. Este artículo se propone realizar un análisis de las películas Regreso a Ítaca (Laurent Cantet, 2014) y El techo (Patricia Ramos, 2016) que contemple cómo determinados aspectos narrativos, estéticos y de puesta en escena contribuyen a la configuración de imaginarios en torno a los procesos migratorios e identitarios. Con este fin, se recuperarán algunas reflexiones teóricas en torno a cuestiones como los imaginarios sociales, el cine y lo transnacional, y se estudiará la construcción de personajes y la configuración de cronotopos en el texto fílmico.

Eles estão unidos pela migração, o destino insular e um terraço. Este artigo pretende realizar uma análise dos filmes Regreso a Ítaca (Laurent Cantet, 2014) e El techo (Patricia Ramos, 2016) que contempla como certos aspectos narrativos, estéticos e de encenação contribuem para a configuração de imaginários relacionados a processos migratórios e identitários. Para tal, serão recuperadas algumas reflexões teóricas sobre questões como os imaginários sociais, o cinema e o transnacional, e se estudará a construção das personagens e a configuração dos cronotopos no texto fílmico.
